VitaStim Surfactants–Surfactant Digesting Bacteria
If your inflow mix contains high levels of surfactants or emulsions that negatively affect your settling or foam management, then reach for VitaStim Surfactants.
This specially developed group of pseudomonas bacterial cultures is designed specifically for your challenge. It delivers benefits like slowing sludge production, reducing foam and improving recovery time from a major upset in your wastewater plant.

Science
Soaps and cleaners (surfactants) are difficult to break down in wastewater processes.
Most members of the public forget that soaps and emulsions are almost always made from grease. Chemists know surfactants as Nonyphenol Ethoxylates (NPEs). Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) operators know that this class of substances arrives at their plants from households, factories, food production and medical facilities.
Industrial and public consumers demand that surfactants be difficult to break down in cleaning processes – this means they remain difficult to break down in wastewater processes.
WWTP operators are also very aware that surfactants cause foaming, cloudy effluent, and shut down nitrification. VitaStim Surfactants is specifically designed with 5 types of bacteria for WWTPs that receive relatively high amounts of surfactants that cause these problems.
This product speeds up the process of degrading surfactant molecules and should be added as soon as foam and turbidity are observed.
Early and prompt treatment produces quicker results.
Solution
Surfactant reduction
Benefits
- When conditions are toxic, it creates a healthier biomass
- Foaming and bulking, sustained by high surfactant load, are reduced
- Increase in cell metabolism of biomass
- Fast recovery from high loads and harmful influent changes
- Settling improves
- Lowered sludge production
- Simpler plant operation
