BugJuice – Sludge Reduction
Reduce the volume in your sludge – our biochemical catalyst will degrade grease, oils, waxes and papers that your bacteria cannot. When you add BugJuice to your wastewater treatment plant, you are turning insoluble materials into compounds that are food for the bacteria: you will have less sludge.
Less sludge matters because it costs money to haul it, store it on land, and otherwise create a byproduct that is easy to handle. Save money, time, and effort by proactively reducing the amount of sludge you have in your system. BugJuice addresses your sludge problems by directly attacking the components of your sludge that increase your challenges. Thicker sludge (less grease, oils, wax and paper) means your sludge settles better, decants clearer and is easier to dispose of.

Science
BugJuice contains a catalyst that converts insoluble BOD to soluble simple sugars. This step is necessary for bacteria to digest it. When you convert BOD to bacteria-digestible simple sugars, you promote sludge reduction.
This is especially relevant for new wastewater treatment plants that do not have primary treatment systems.
Aeration systems in new treatment plant designs catch everything:
- hard-to-digest fats,
- paper products,
- surfactants and
- complex chemical mixes sent downstream by industry.
The digester or sludge storage tank inevitably fills with insoluble BOD. This adds volume and bulk to your sludge and traditional beneficial bacteria are not able to reduce this volume. BugJuice is designed to significantly reduce insoluble BOD volume and results in overall lower sludge volumes for wastewater operators to manage.
